While I was out hiking this weekend, I stepped on a rock and
rolled my ankle, it got very swollen and bruised. I can put a
little weight on it and use crutches for support, I am sure it is not
fractured. What should I do?

Ankle sprains are a very common injury and Physical Therapy is one of the best things you can do! We can help you rule out any serious injuries and then help you get back to walking and eventually hiking! In the early stages (acute stage), it is very important to make sure that you are keeping your ankle as mobile as possible. Try moving your ankle in circles, up and down, or writing out the alphabet, apply ice and compression for the swelling. Physical therapists are movement experts and can help you specifically with strengthening and regaining your balance. Make an appointment right away with your physical therapist and we will get you back to hiking again.
